Defy Your Age With Supplements

While many resort to surgeries to preserve their health and youth, they are faced with expensive prices and severe risks. Luckily, there are natural alternative supplements one may choose that can bring about the same age defying effects, along with additional health benefits.

Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a form of connective tissue that gives substance and form to the body by binding salt and water and expanding the space that surrounds the cell.
Glucosamine is produced by cells called chondrocytes, that when stimulated produce HA and Chondroitin Sulfate. Chondroitin sulfate is a large molecule that contains many linked molecules of Glucosamine Sulfate, and it helps to preserve chondrocytes from death.
More than half of the HA within the body is stored in the skin, but it also is lost through the skin on a daily basis. As people age the amount of HA. Taking a supplement can make up for what is being lost daily, while enhancing its benefits.

Joints
The findings of the University of California at San Diego researchers were presented last week at the 2007 World Congress on Osteoarthritis in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The abstract of this study is to be published in the Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Journal. 12/10/2007: Researchers have associated methylsulfonylmethane, or MSM, to protecting articular cartilage and reducing inflammation in osteoarthritis; findings that could bolster the profile of the ingredient for joint health. Glucosamine and Chondroitin sulfate have been the most high profile joint health supplement ingredients to date, with MSM following in third place.
With a larger proportion of the American population aging than before, supplements focusing on joint health will likely continue to grow in popularity, especially if they can be scientifically proven to be effective. The in vitro study investigated the effect of the MSM, Glucosamine and Chondroitin on healthy and osteoarthritis articular cartilage from post mortem human knees.
MSM and Chondroitin act as barriers, shielding cartilage in early stages of osteoarthritis from further degeneration from inflammatory cytokines and cartilage degrading enzymes. With more researcher planned for 2008, the investigators say additional studies will be necessary to elaborate an optimum dose concentration for use in supplements by humans. The generally recommended dosage is 1,500 to 6,000 mg of MSM with Chondroitin and Glucosamine per day.

Megadoses of Vitamins
Megadoses of Vitamin C can prevent colds remains unproven, yet high doses of some vitamins could play a big role in the treatment of disease and perhaps slow the effects of aging, according to a University of California, Berkeley, biochemist.
In a review article in the April issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, UC Berkeley's Bruce N. Ames lists more than 50 genetic diseases successfully treated with high doses of vitamins, most of them rare inborn metabolic diseases due to defective enzymes.
Ames found a common thread in the effectiveness of these megavitamin therapies that suggests there may be many more diseases treatable with high dose vitamins, in particular the eight B vitamins like niacin, thiamine and pyridoxine. And because aging involves similar biochemical deficiencies, megavitamins may help perk up an increasingly older population.
Zinc and iron deficiency, vitamin C, B12 and B6 deficiencies are very common. A multivitamin pill costs only a penny to make; you can buy a year's supply for ten dollars. Everybody in the world should take one as insurance and try to eat a good diet.
